The project was inspired in the natural phenomenon of Solstice and the associated paganism cults and rituals, as the Roman God ‘Sol Invictus’. I developed a project with the craft technique of palm leaf folding, a natural plant from the region where I did two masks for Solstice celebrations. The mask to celebrate the Summer Solstice, the biggest day of sun light, is more exuberant. I used natural and coloured pink palm leaf, designing surfaces with a gradient effect. The top part has an unfinished result, where each leaf extends vertically as a reference to the sun rays. During the residency, I worked together with the palm leaf craftsmen, Sr. Custódio where I learnt where to catch the palm leafs in the region, how to prepare the material before its use, techniques of folding and how to sew the pieces.
