The gilded age of dancing, laughter, jazz and – well of course, everything gold and metallic.  The era of Art Deco, following in the foot steps of the Art Nouveau period in France, was one of the most prestigious eras in history and to this day is still one of the most replicated and sought after design styles.

Some think that the grandeur of Art Deco is only fitting for larger, luxurious homes.  We are here to prove them wrong and show you five amazing apartments that perfectly replicate Art Deco design in a modern-day setting.

Art Deco with a minimalist touch

A mixture of Asian, minimalist and Art Deco wth the use of glass and black, this bedroom partition is one of the only items in the room that gives off the gilded feel of the Art Deco period.

Still a contemporary interpretation, this bedroom successfully achieves a clean yet Art Deco look.

A gilded, minimalist kitchen

Gilded and reflective accessories are a key to achieving the Art Deco technique. This kitchen starts with a wonderful, neutral base, and a combination of gilded gold, white and raw wood.

The minimalist fixtures are absolutely divine and hanging on simple black cords, they achieve a modern look as well.

Curved lines and wand lamps/fixtures

One of the most exemplary items of design to ever come out of the Art Deco era are ’Art Deco wand lamps’. You can see a perfect example on the upper-left corner of the black feature wall.

This lengthy curvature – that's also repeated on the accent table, coffee table and media center – are all key features of the Art Deco era.

A different dining room

Considering the dining room requires such a mix of design items, it can actually be one of the easiest places to create the Art Deco look: Chairs, a table, lighting components and flooring.

This dining room is definitely a modern interpretation of the Art Deco period, with the difference in colour palette – yet the large-scale art work, mid-century furniture and curved chandelier give you a subtle but effective Art Deco feel.

Living room gallery, or Art Deco living room?

This living room is quite impressive. The use of colours, patterns, textures, art work and great lighting turn it into a miniature gallery space, highlighting all the appropriate items and decor. The unique light fixture to the right, combined with the gallery-style artwork demonstration and use of bold colours eludes a sense of the Art Deco technique and feel.

There are plenty of reasons why the Art Deco period is one of the most replicated and interpreted in modern interior design and architecture – it's timeless to a certain degree. It's a look that, with a bit of time and effort, can be easily replicated in any modern home.

Art deco is a truly unique style, but what else is out there? Check out these weird and wonderful interiors – you won't be disappointed!
