It’s a well-known fact that home remodelling projects can increase the look and value of one’s property. And it’s also true that those considered in vogue usually stand a better chance of being snatched up quicker. So, if you feel that your living room space has been looking a tad drab lately, why not look to the trendiest trend you can follow right now (which is summer 2020) to give your interiors a fresh makeover?

Obviously, you will not be expected to list your property afterwards, as these summer 2020 décor ideas (agreed upon by numerous professionals like Interior Designers and Decorators, but also trendsetters, blog writers, novice designers, DIY experts, homeowners, lovers of interior design… ) can also be seen as your personal reward to yourself for enduring another harsh winter.

1. Bring the outdoors inside

Spring and summer are about being back outdoors. So, if what if you could blur the boundaries between your interiors and the outdoors a little bit?

We’re not suggesting you start tearing down walls and adding floor-to-ceiling windows and glass doors, but consider what you can do to give your living room some extra sunshine (and splendid outdoor views) to enjoy summer 2020 even more.

2. Get creative with a coastal style

Welcome the ‘holiday’ side of summer back with a living room looking like it belongs next to a pristine beach and crashing waves. As we all know, there’s something magical and quite lavish about living by the seaside.

But fortunately you don’t need to resort to a symphony of dolphins, mermaids, deep blues and trendy turquoises to give your living room the right look for summer 2020. Subtle-yet-still-stylish ideas on this topic can include:

• Scatter cushions with nautical-inspired patterns

• A simple colour palette of blues, whites, and greys (bonus points if there’s a striped pattern involved)

• Framed photos / art of lighthouses, beaches, maritime-related quotes, etc.

• A stack of nautical-themed reading material (The Little Mermaid, The Old Man and the Sea, Moby Dick… )

• Throw in some applicable book ends (i.e. whales, mermaids, anchors) while you’re busy searching for that literature.

Be sure to include some relevant natural textures where possible such as wood (driftwood), shells, pebbles, etc.

3. Some wood is always good

Natural materials are all the rage right now, and that includes wood – one of the most trusted and loved building / design materials on this planet. See how wood can add warmth, texture, and pattern to your favourite seating space by letting it clad up your fireplace, perhaps a focal wall, or simply just some choice furnishings and accessories.

4. Give green colours a go

Since we’re embracing nature and natural materials, how about natural colours for your living room’s palette? No surprise that green has become one of the trendiest colour choices in this ‘going green’ age of ours.

And have you ever stopped to think how many different kinds of greens there are? With the right tint, you can freshen up your living room this year via a bright and charming green (like Parakeet, Mint, Lime… ), a more dramatic hue (such as Juniper, Seaweed, Moss… ), or even a green that's only a few hues away from the neutral palettes (such as Pistachio, Olive, Crocodile… ).

5. Add some art

Want to inspire the rest of your household to embrace summer 2020? How about crafting a neat little gallery wall in your living room with framed photos of past holidays, landscapes, mountains and oceans, or any other type of photography / art that’s going to help you focus more on the warmer, gentler seasons of the year?

6. Purify and prettify with plants

Sometimes the great ideas are right in front of you… or right outside your doorstep. Mother Nature has been a prime inspiration for numerous designers worldwide, and with the ‘going green’ mindset it is really refreshing to see the need and want to include more plants and flowers inside homes.

And let’s not forget that including potted pretties indoors does wonders in terms of:

• Cleaning indoor air by absorbing toxins, increasing humidity, and producing oxygen

• Enhancing one’s mood, creativity and concentration

• Reducing stress and anxiety.

7. A slight update to your paint

They say a change is as good as a holiday. Ah yes, but said change does not have to involve repainting your charming living room’s soft yellow walls into a dark and dramatic purple. If you feel the urge to change your wall’s paint colours in a subtle way for summer 2020, stick to colours closely situated to your original colour on the colour wheel (like going from a soft yellow to a soft orange / coral; light beige to very dusty green; baby blue to soft turquoise… ).

And don’t stress too much about your décor and furnishings; spring and summer are both meant to flaunt a tad more colour than usual, right?

While we’re on the subject of colour, we have these 10 Bedroom colour ideas to inspire you!
