5 modern houses (with their plans to give you ideas!)

Today we’re doing something a little different; we’ll be taking a look at five plans of modern houses along with a picture of the final result.

The plan is a graphic representation of a space or building created with the intention of representing a multidimensional surface on a flat surface.

We’re going to look at five homes in order to better understand the relationship between the plans and the final, finished house allowing us to use architectural plans as well as photos as a source of inspiration in the future.

 Let’s get started…

1. The interior of the home

Here we can see the living room and the kitchen in the background as a faithful reflection of the plan below. To the right is the corridor that leads two of three bedrooms and one bathroom.

2. A simple plan

We chose this plan because it's a friendlier incarnation for those of us who are not designers or architects. The use of different colours and a more elaborate representation of furniture make it easier to interpret this plan.

2. Open-plan ground floor

Here we can see plans of the ground floor including the living room, dining room, kitchen, garage and a room with an ensuite bathroom. The garden in the background is accessed via the living room, and we can see stairs leading to the second floor.

2. The finished result

Here you can see the living room with the garden visible through the windows, as well as the kitchen in the background.

The concrete structure is complemented by a false ceiling in the kitchen that helps to separate this environment without walls.

3. Two plans together

Here we present two plans: the first is of the only floor of the home and the second of the roof.

The most interesting aspect of this construction is the central courtyard we can see in the roof plan that provides views of all the rooms in the home.

3. The central courtyard

As promised in the plan, this single-storey building surrounds a central courtyard with decking. On the left side you will see the living room which opens onto another terrace.

4. Interior and exterior plans

Here we have a plan of both the interior and exterior of the property representing the exterior in grey and the interior in white; in the background we can see a pool depicted in blue. The accompanying numbers give the proportion and make it easier to understand.

4. The view from the properties exterior

This photo shows the completed home with the pool and the patio in the foreground; consistent in every detail with the plan.

5. An unconventional home

This plan is a little more difficult to understand given the unconventional structure of the house. On the other hand the plan only shows the bathrooms and the divisions of the walls simplifying the depiction somewhat.

5. The completed structure

Despite the orientation of the picture being different from that of the plan it is easy to compare the completed home with its graphical representation. The house is presented in a ‘t’ shape; a very contemporary and unconventional structure.
