Have you ever stayed in a hotel that you never wanted to leave? We know that feeling. Hotels strive to provide you with the best – and that includes a range of interior design styles, combined with functionality and a budget. Even in the most basic hotels, it's evident that the rooms are important!

If you want to take the design home with you, there are cost-effective ways to do so. All you have to do look at how a hotel room achieves its maximum potential, break it down and apply it to your own bedroom Here at homifywe have broken it down for you into 5 easy chunks; ranging from the basics and functionality to the quirky extras and interior design. Your room can go from lame to lavish in no time!

1. Furniture

Hotels vary when it comes to furniture in the bedroom; most keep it to a minimum, including a bed, bedside table and a closet; others with a slightly higher budget could include a sofa, TV and mini-fridge. Depending on your individual style, you may choose to limit your use of furniture.

The bedroom is, however, a place of calm, peace and relaxation, so sometimes overcrowding it with furniture can be overwhelming and leave it feeling busy and small. Take it back to basics – the bed, the bedside table, the wardrobe – and go from there. This minimalist approach to furnishing a room can go a long way to creating a chic space in your house.

2. Fancy wallpaper

Get fancy with your walls! Using patterned wallpaper is such an easy and inexpensive way to add a touch of personality and an air of elegance and class to your bedroom. Here, a floral pattern is used in a purple wallpaper, but there is a huge, diverse range of colours, patterns and styles for your wall.

Wallpaper like this is commonly used on one wall out of four in order to create a feature wall, so the colour is very important. Not only does it have to compliment your chic bedroom, but it also needs to be in harmony with the colour of the other three walls. It's an incredibly classical idea with such a beautiful result!

3. Classic fittings

We all love to feel like royalty sometimes, right? Getting classical and bright with your design can have an amazing pay-off and you can sleep as soundly as one of the royals.

High-end hotels like to show off, there's no doubt about that. But they have good reason to; the classical inspirations they use are what you pay for. We adore the grand chandeliers, the ornate trimmings around the room and the patterned curtain above the bed. If you do, too, then you can recreate it in a cheap and simple way at home! Old, second-hand curtains work well above the bed and chandeliers can be very cheap these days, so get shopping.

4. Functionality

The foundation of a chic hotel room is the functionality of it. When we walk into a hotel, we usually see a double bed, a bedside table and a TV (which often makes us excited!). It is well-lit, spacious and neutral. For your own room, start with these basics.

Add a long throw runner across the bottom half of the bed, use top quality pillows and cushions and make sure the bed faces the television for more comfort and convenience. That is pretty much all you need to do for a room like this – easy and cheap!

5. Make the headboard a feature

One distinctly important part of high-end hotels is their headboards. They are almost always huge features in the room and add style and personality through colour and shape. The above headboard, for example, adds a slightly brighter green to an otherwise very neutral-toned bedroom.

Whether you go for sweet and simple, big and chunky or intricate and beautiful, a headboard will bring a new energy to your bedroom – and make it as chic as a hotel room!
