This little list is for all the lovers of everything Scandinavian in the home, from the cool light colour palette to the soft woods and the overall simplicity of the aesthetic.

If you don't already, know Scandi-style is, along with minimalism, one of the most versatile style precisely because of its straightforwardness, its air of pure health and goodness that allows quite a bit of room for all kinds of tweeks and twirks on the part of the decorator before things get out of hand.

So today homify features a list of six Scandi-style kitchens that have pushed the boundaries of the style a bit, and in doing so, have found themselves on the edge of the future of the style itself. Continue on for more…

1. Country Scandi-style

On-trend features of this kitchen include unprocessed wood, a semi-attached kitchen island and white brick mosaic tile backsplash and accent walls.

But what makes this design really fresh is its combination of Scandinavian and country styles, where the whole feel of the kitchen, with its herb shelves, dark wood ceiling beams and tiling give it a country vibe but the steel hanging lamps, stove cap, geometric stools and dusted wood cube shelving are all Scandanavian. This kitchen gets extra marks for eclecticism.

2. Chalkboards and steel appliances

Chalkboard walls and steel appliances are stealing kitchen lovers' hearts this season; the former because of their potential for a more personal creative tough, which is also functional, and the latter because steel as a material just looks so clean and sheen, and additionally goes well with light woods like you typically find in Scandinavian kitchen design.

3. Wood, more wood

The nearly all wood technique for kitchens goes all the way to embrace the contemporary fashion that says that getting back to nature is imperative - natural, sustainable materials - and wood is everything. From top to bottom, this kitchen breathes wood, from the window blinds to the island to the parqueted ceilings, walls and floors. But what makes this kitchen uber voguish is the eclectic use of various patterns of woods.

There is not one section of wood that is seamless with all the others, so that each section--the living area, the semi-attached island, the walls, the kitchen floor – has its own special style and colour of the fabulous material.

4. Feathery minimalism

This Scandi-kitchen goes for light retro feel and nails it. Marshmallow white and mint green make this kitchen as cool and upbeat as can be--who wouldn't feel a bit more positive about starting the day after breakfasting in here?

It's difficult to pick a favourite feature; from the shiny white bar nook, the retro minimalist white chairs to the high-fashion, vintage refrigerator with a sheer mint gleam and silver pull handles.

5. Dark is in

Scandinavian style has typically been associated with light or cool colours but recently, things have been shaking up: dark is in. So when you look at this kitchen you are looking at an up-to-the-minute Scandi design, complete with upper, puzzle-piece shelves alternating between deep rosewood and sheen black.

Even further, the countertops are a clouded deep charcoal, set off against traditional Scandanavian style white cabinetry everywhere else. Lastly, a long chalkboard behind the sink might be the trendsetter for kitchen backsplashes this season.

6. Mismatches among matches

Grey, cream and green is the colour scheme on top this season, and this kitchen has pulled it off so well. The green diamond-patterned and white mosaic floors tie in with the plants and green-bound books on the thick partition shelf that divides kitchen from living room, and two-toned grey and white cupboards are a thing of the moment for sure, because mismatched, more eclectic style is just what is in--see the mismatched wooden chairs at the dining table! Lastly, the light chrome lamps hang low above the country white table, giving an impression of a higher ceiling, more space.
