General – Outside

The materials selected follow contrast theories (light/dark) both inside and within the interior-exterior relationships.Outside as the building is set within an old warehouse build in stone in which it barely touches in order to keep some of the existing textures and a clear relationship between old and new. The materials used bring new textures to the composition, being it with the walls made of board formed concrete, the windows are wall to wall so they are often covered by a wood sliding shutter. On the opposite side of the roaster you have a vertical garden framed by the same wood as the window shutters.

Inside the materials are kept simple in order give more detail to the roaster, the products and the textures from the old building as well as the exterior garden. The new walls are texture-less and painted in black in contrast with the lighter stone textures, the ceiling is in either concrete or painted black in contrast with the ceramic floor with a wooden texture. The lights chosen are in a yellow hue to bring warmth and visual comfort to an otherwise darker space, so the lamps interior are golden, and the exposed lights are design lights by Plumen. The furniture is in a lighter shade of wood, pine (same as the apartments upstairs). In sum the objective was to darken some plans in order to enhance the visual relationship with the lighter elements filled with texture and colours, being it either the furniture, the products or the roasting process. All of this sticking with concrete, wood and stone.

The apartments upstairs have a different approach being a more private space that aims to mimic a normal house. So the walls are white panels punctuated by custom vinyl cutouts or magnets (each apartment has a different custom vinyl cutout, each one focusing on a different theme of the city), the structure is kept as raw as possible, in pine wood. The net diving the floors is the same as in the roaster ceiling, the bathrooms bring the concrete walls inside opposed to the white ceiling and a small light tunnel showing the sky. In order to enhance the relationship of the colours and materials from the outside corridor – the kitchen is in grey with a wood counter, so anytime you are around it due to the big windows or the small window the back it all connects.
