This historic house, located in the center of a small village on the south coast of Madeira Island, was restored for a family with 2 children. The bathrooms and kitchen were completely replaced, in the rest of the house we chose to retain as much of the existing as possible. The original stone wall was uncovered in the kitchen, as well as the wood floor in the hallway and staircase. In the patio a new steel stair, which gives access to the terrace, was placed.
The materials we used were carefully chosen to blend with the existing architecture of the house. In the kitchen and the patio we placed hydraulically pressed cement tiles. On the terrace, which is bordered by a large planter for a tropical garden, remaining stocks of this type of tiles were used for a mix and match pattern, combining traditional materials and contemporary architecture.
