The execution of the new shed is much more than a traditional process. We propose to use the existing shed perimeter walls as a mold for the new construction, similar to the process of casting a bronze sculpture. Concrete would be poured between the existing walls and carefully arranged oak formwork within the original buildings footprint. This process would create a tactile surface that conveys to the original shed three dimensionality, giving it a sculptural sense of abstraction.

The building features a rectangular open plan layout and may accommodate different activities, varying from workshop studio or lecture space to private study and reading room. Windows are located at key positions, to maximize views. Certain views are framed, creating a visual connection to the surrounding landscape that will inspire creativity. The windows are equipped with external covers (with the same finishing as the façades), which allow the building to open like a book onto the garden.

The most striking feature of the proposed
building would be the fiery red-coloured concrete. Red was chosen to create a balanced contrast with the landscape background. It is also intended to reference the brickwork of the surrounding context, as red bricks were used throughout the Maltings architectural detailing: chimneys, window frames, attic walls, etc. The new out-building adopts the same philosophy and inherits the colour code of its historical neighbours, thus accentuating that aspect of the original architecture and telling a new story.
